In a move that will no doubt cause disillusionment and consternation amongst diehard traditionalists, the Supreme Court of Victoria has announced that from 1 May 2016, all Judges of that Court will cease wearing wigs in all matters, trial and appellate.

The move follows the lead of the higher courts of England and Wales and those of Western Australia, each having already ditched the horse hair in favour of a more natural look.

Despite the changes to the attire of Judges, barristers will still be required to be wigged and robed.
